Mazda CX-3 is a front- or all-wheel drive crossover of a subcompact category, embodying an elegant design, modern and productive technical "stuffing" and a rich set of options ... This car is positioned as an "urban SUV with good off-road potential", which is addressed primarily turn, young and ambitious people who follow the current fashion trends ...

For the first time, the off-road vehicle was revealed to the public on November 19, 2014 - as part of a private event held on one of the boulevards of Hollywood, and a few days later its full-scale premiere was "thundered" - at the stands of the International Los Angeles Motor Show.

The five-door, built on the basis of the Mazda 2 hatchback, donned the corporate identity of the Japanese brand called KODO and tried on a full set of "sky-active" technologies.

Already in October 2016, the Mazda CX-3 went through a small technical upgrade, as a result of which it acquired the G-Vectoring Control system (a software add-on that varies the engine thrust depending on the road situation) and new options, and in the spring of 2018 it underwent a second, already more major update - debuting at the New York Auto Show. This time the car slightly freshened up externally and internally, "armed" with modified engines and reconfigured suspension, and also received equipment that was previously inaccessible.

Externally, the Mazda CX-3 instantly attracts the eye - the subcompact crossover looks beautiful, bold, balanced and dynamic, and there are no contradictory design solutions in its outlines.

At the front, the five-door is awe-inspiring with a predatory squint of lighting technology, a monumental radiator grille and a relief folded bumper, and at the back it boasts aggressive lights, expressive plastic tailgate and a powerful bumper with two exhaust pipes.

In profile, the car demonstrates a graceful, harmonious and energetic appearance - a long sloping bonnet, drooping roof contours, a stylish wave of the window sill line, emotional "splashes" on the sidewalls, huge flourishes of wheel arches and a darkened rear roof pillar.

In terms of its dimensions, the Mazda CX-3 is in the segment of subcompact SUVs: its length is 4275 mm, width - 1765 mm, height - 1535 mm. The wheelbase of the car is stretched by 2570 mm, and its ground clearance does not exceed 160 mm.

The curb weight of the SUV varies from 1155 to 1295 kg, depending on the version.

Interior auxiliary devices, a discreet center console with a protruding 7-inch media center tablet, one round ventilation deflector and three "washers" of the air conditioner.

The decoration of the car is assembled exclusively from solid materials - pleasant plastics, glossy decor, high-quality fabric or leather, etc.

Formally, the Mazda CX-3 interior is designed to accommodate five adults, but in fact, only two passengers can be more or less comfortable in the back (although the sofa itself has a comfortable shape), and even then only on short trips. In the first row, things are different - the driver and his companion rely on ergonomic seats with optimally expressed sidewalls and wide adjustment ranges and a sufficient supply of free space.

The trunk of a subcompact crossover in a standard state is able to "absorb" up to 350 liters of luggage, and in addition to this it also has an almost ideal layout with smooth walls. The second row of seats folds in two sections and brings the volume of the cargo compartment to 1260 liters, but does not form a completely flat area. In the underground niche there is a stowaway and a set of tools.

For the 2019 Mazda CX-3, there are two four-cylinder engines to choose from:

  • The first option is an atmospheric gasoline engine Skyactiv-G with a working volume of 2.0 liters with direct fuel injection, a 16-valve timing structure and variable valve timing, declared in several boost levels:
    • 121 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 207 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm;
    • 150 h.p. at 6000 rpm and 207 Nm of rotational potential at 2800 rpm.
  • The second is a diesel 1.8-liter Skyactiv-D unit with a turbocharger, battery "power" Common Rail and 16-valve timing, which generates 115 hp. at 4000 rpm and 270 Nm of available thrust at 1600-2600 rpm.

All motors are stacked with both 6-speed "mechanics" and 6-range "automatic".

The "younger" petrol "four" is connected exclusively with the front-wheel drive transmission, and the "older", on the contrary, only with the all-wheel drive system, where the transfer of up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels is controlled by a multi-plate clutch. As for diesel cars, they can be mono- and all-wheel drive.

From one place to the first "hundred" Mazda CX-3 accelerates after 8.8-11 seconds, and conquers the maximum speed of 181-200 km / h.

Petrol modifications of an off-road vehicle require 6.1-7 liters of fuel for every 100 km of run in combined mode, and diesel - 4.4-4.9 liters.

At the heart of the Mazda CX-3 is a front-wheel-drive architecture borrowed from the Mazda 2 hatchback, with a transversely mounted power unit and a monocoque body made up of 63% high-strength steel grades. The front axle of the vehicle is suspended by means of an independent structure with MacPherson struts, and the rear is suspended using a semi-independent suspension with a torsion bar ("in a circle" - with anti-roll bars).

The crossover is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex with an integrated electric power steering, and disc brakes (ventilated at the front) are used on all its wheels, supplemented by ABS, EBD and other modern "chips".

In the Russian market, the Mazda CX-3 is not officially sold, but in the countries of the Old World (to be more precise, in Germany), a restyled SUV can be purchased at a price of 17,990 euros (~ 1.4 million rubles).

As standard, the car is equipped with: front and side airbags, ABS, EBD, DSC, an audio system with four speakers, a tire pressure monitoring system, air conditioning, power windows for all doors, Start / Stop technology, engine start from a button, 16-inch wheels, heated front seats, multifunction steering wheel and other modern equipment.
