Geely Atlas is a front- or four-wheel drive SUV of a compact category, which boasts an expressive design, a modern and practical interior, a balanced technical component and a good level of equipment ... The main target audience of the car are city dwellers (often family) with a good annual income, who want to get “ universal and functional vehicle ", but at a relatively affordable price ...

At the Beijing International Auto Show (which was held at the end of April 2016), Geely held the world premiere of the serial version of the compact crossover, codenamed NL-3 (which, however, first appeared before the general public back in October 2015 - at exhibition in Guangzhou, but then only in the status of a conceptual model) ... and it reached the Russian market, already as Atlas, in February 2018.

This car, marketed in its home market since March 2016 under the name "BoYue", came from the pen of ex-Volvo Cars designer Peter Horbury and became the first Geely off-road vehicle equipped with all-wheel drive..

The exterior design of Geely Atlas is subordinated to the brand's new corporate style, set by the large sedan "GC9". And I must say, the crossover turned out to be nice and harmonious, and in its appearance you cannot find any borrowings.

An interestingly tailored front end, devoid of obvious aggression, embossed sidewalls with an intricate break in the "window sill", stylish stern with narrow lanterns and a massive bumper - due to this appearance, the "Chinese" will obviously not get lost in the "crowd" of modern SUVs.

The overall length of the Geely Atlas is 4519 mm, the wheelbase extends to 2670 mm, and the height and width do not exceed 1694 mm and 1831 mm, respectively. The crossover's ground clearance is 190 mm.

In "combat" form, the machine weighs from 1550 to 1700 kg (depending on the equipment option).

Interior

Inside, this off-road vehicle from the Middle Kingdom "flaunts" a restrained and sporty assembled interior with a relief steering wheel (cut off at the bottom) and visual instruments placed in "wells" (in rich versions, the "toolbox" is completely digital).

The "littered" center console encloses an 8-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system and a stylish "climate" unit, and the gearshift lever is surrounded by the buttons for auxiliary controls.

The decoration of the five-door is made of high-quality plastics, which in the "top" trim levels are supplemented with genuine leather and aluminum-like trim.

In the Geely Atlas cabin, well-profiled front seats with well-defined sidewalls and a welcomingly molded rear sofa are installed, and a sufficient amount of free space is guaranteed to riders in both rows of seats.

The trunk of an off-road vehicle is small - its volume in normal condition is only 340 liters (when loaded "under the shelf"), and taking into account the underground - 397 liters. True, the niche under the raised floor is occupied by a neat organizer that allows you to place a full-size spare wheel and the necessary tools.

The second row of seats is folded in two sections in the ratio "60:40", as a result of which the cargo capacity of the "hold" is significantly increased, but a completely flat floor is not obtained.

Specifications

For Atlas, there are three four-cylinder petrol engines with 16-valve timing and direct power technology that meet Euro-5 environmental standards:

  • By default, the crossover is equipped with an atmospheric unit with a volume of 2.0 liters (1997 cubic centimeters), which develops 141 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 191 Nm of ultimate thrust at 3900-4400 rpm.
  • It is followed by a 2.4-liter (2378 cubic centimeters) "aspirated", which produces 148 hp. at 5300 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 3900-4400 rpm.
  • The "top" option is a 1.8-liter engine (1799 cubic centimeters) with a turbocharger, offered in several versions of boost (in the future, it will also reach the Russian market):
    • 163 h.p. at 5500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1500-4500 rpm,
    • or 184 hp at 5500 rpm and 285 Nm of available potential at 1500-4000 rpm.

With engines of 141 and 163 hp. exclusively 6-speed "mechanics" and a front-wheel drive transmission are docked, while the remaining two units work together only with a 6-band "automatic" by DSI, which as an option can be equipped with an all-wheel drive system with a NexTrac multi-plate clutch, if necessary, transfer traction to the wheels of the rear axle.

Depending on the modification, the crossover accelerates to 185-195 km / h and on average consumes no more than 7.0-9.4 liters of fuel in mixed conditions per “hundred”. The dynamic capabilities were not officially announced, but in independent tests the "2.4-liter" was able to reach 100 km / h in ≈13 seconds.

Design features

The Geely Atlas is based on a front-wheel drive platform with a monocoque body and independent suspension architecture on both axles: classic MacPherson struts are used in the front, and a multi-link design in the rear.

The car's rack and pinion steering system is equipped with an electric power steering with variable characteristics, and the front and rear wheels are equipped with disc brakes with ABS, EBD and other "assistants".
