Mercedes-Benz C-class Estate is a rear- or all-wheel drive luxury station wagon of the mid-size category ("D-segment" by the standards of the Old World), which boasts an attractive appearance, premium interior, modern technical components and a high level of practicality ... Its main target audience is family people with a high level of annual income, living in the city and having one or more children ...

The cargo-passenger model of the fourth generation (in-plant code "S205") appeared before the world community in the fall of 2014 - at the Paris Motor Show (although its production began in May of the same year).

In March 2018 (at the motor show in Geneva), an updated version of the five-door debuted, which received: "refreshed" exterior and interior, new engines and an expanded list of available equipment.

Outside, the Mercedes-Benz C Estate differs from the sedan of the same name by the "universal" design of the rear end with different lights, and repeats it at the front and side (at least up to the B-pillar).

Despite its "essence", the station wagon looks attractive, dynamic, restrained and, most importantly, without a hint of ponderousness.

The fourth-generation cargo-and-passenger "shop" is elongated by 4702 mm in length and 1810 mm and 1457 mm in width and height, respectively. The center-to-center distance of the car is 2840 mm, and its ground clearance "rests" at 130 mm.

In the front part, the saloon of the Mercedes-Benz C-class station wagon is borrowed from the three-box without any changes - a beautiful, modern and solid design, impeccable ergonomics, as well as the highest quality of materials for finishing and workmanship. It also has no differences in terms of capacity: in front, the five-door has comfortable chairs with a relief profile and a lot of adjustments, and in the back - a hospitable sofa, more suitable only for a couple of people.

But in terms of practicality, the "fourth" Mercedes-Benz C-class surpasses the sedan of the same name: in its normal state, its "hold" is able to "absorb" 490 liters of luggage, and with the rear sofa removed - 1510 liters (in this case, a completely flat area is obtained) ...

For the upgraded five-door Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the same powertrains are offered as for the four-door:

  • The gasoline range consists of in-line four-cylinder turbo engines with a volume of 1.5 (C200/C2004Matic) and 2.0 liters (C300) with direct fuel supply, 16-valve timing and adjustable gas distribution phases: the first produces 184 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, and the second - 258 hp. and 370 Nm.
  • For diesel modifications C220d/C220d4Matic a 2.0-liter "four" with battery injection, a twin-scroll turbocharger and 16 valves is installed, releasing 194 hp. and 400 Nm of peak thrust.

All motors work together with a 9-band "automatic" 9G-Tronic, and all-wheel drive versions are equipped with a proprietary 4Matic system with an asymmetric center differential and active distribution of traction along the axles.

The pre-styling station wagon was offered on the Russian market in two petrol versions:

  • "Junior" option C180 contains a 1.6-liter unit under the hood, developing 156 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.
  • "Older" C2004Matic is equipped with a 2.0-liter engine that produces 184 hp. and 300 Nm.

Structurally, the Mercedes-Benz C-class Estate of the fourth incarnation repeats the sedan: the modular MRA platform at the base with independent two-levers at the front and a multi-link at the rear (optionally with electronically controlled shock absorbers or pneumatic cylinders), active electric power steering and four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated on front axle) with modern assistants.

The updated version of the passenger-and-freight "shop" will debut on the Russian market towards the end of 2018, but the pre-styling station wagon is sold in our country in the C180 and C200 4Matic modifications at a price of RUB 2,270,000 and RUB 2,720,000, respectively.

In terms of initial and additional equipment, the five-door completely echoes the three-volume "brother".
