Doors in a car are the type of elements that are used every day, but no one pays special attention to them. Unless it is closed to the end, and the castle begins to rattle on the bumps. Or a friend, accustomed to his "classics", slams the door with all his might - so that, just look, the glass will fly out.

But the first cars had no doors at all: the driver's seat resembled the goats of horse carriages. And even now there are cars without doors - these are race cars for circuit races, buggies, vehicles for trophy raids and army cars.

One of the first car doors were classic swing doors that open against the movement. Modifying externally, such doors were used for a long time - until the 50s of the last century.

Since the 60s, swing doors that open in the direction of travel have become classic. Now such a design is used in the overwhelming majority of cars, and a more convenient, simple and universal replacement for it is not expected.

An experimental wing-opening door - elegant but not particularly practical ...

Sliding doors came from commercial vehicles to passenger cars. And they got accustomed well - this design is used even on urban runabouts. This is convenient when parking is tight, and if you add an electric drive, it will be completely comfortable.

Guillotine or envelope doors are a common solution for luxury sports cars and for deep tuning.

Frameless doors for glass are the only possible solution for open top vehicles. But they also find application in cars with a hard top, although they are not as common as "frame" ones.

Swing doors opening in the "gate" type (towards each other). The design, although it looks a little "retro", is of interest to designers. After all, if you remove the B-pillar, you get ample access to the salon!

But the type of opening "butterfly" (the back door - in the direction of travel, the front door - against) did not receive development and continuation, as it was irrational.

The combination of sliding and swing doors is another modern option designed to overcome crowded parking spaces.

The main malfunctions of car doors: wear of rubber seals, corrosion and loosening of the hinges. The door begins to let water through and sag. Sooner or later, this happens to any car. In order for such defects to appear as late as possible, it is worth lubricating the hinges from time to time and applying conditioner to the seals.

Repairing and painting a door is a highly professional procedure. It is important to restore the geometry, pick up the paint in color and apply it in compliance with the technology. The cost of such work is from 5000 rubles.

As a tuning: you can apply airbrushing on the door, change the interior upholstery, put up power windows, and tint the windows. You can even change the type of opening, turning, for example, swing doors into "guillotine" doors with an electric drive.
