The Ibiza is an extremely important model for SEAT: this five-door hatchback of the “subcompact class” (segment “B” according to the European classification) in its long history has not only become the most popular Spanish passenger car on the world stage, but also allowed the brand to go global ...

The fifth "release" of the car was first presented by the Spaniards late in the evening on the last day of January 2017 at a special event in Barcelona. After "reincarnation" it lost its three-door and cargo-passenger modifications, "perched" on a new platform, received a wide range of modern equipment, and outwardly turned out to be "like two drops of water" similar to the "older" model "Leon".

The appearance of the fifth generation SEAT Ibiza best suits the definition of "sharp" - its lean body is literally truncated by edges and edges, but at the same time the hatch looks beautiful, bold, sporty and, most importantly, harmonious. The cold look of the headlights with broken LED sections of the running lights, the energetic silhouette with the embossed "folds" on the sides and the "flying" sill line, the graceful stern with fanciful lanterns and the "curly" bumper - the five-door looks good from all angles.

The dimensions of the 5th generation Ibiza are typical for the B-class: 4050 mm in length, 1444 mm in height and 1780 mm in width. The car has a 2564 mm wheelbase between the wheelsets.

The hatchback interior does not shine with originality - it is a solid product of the "German school": it looks attractive, laconic and geometrically correct. The center console is slightly turned towards the driver, and "prescribes" on itself the screen of a multimedia complex with a diameter of 5 or 8 inches and an exemplary block of the climate system. The "restrained" instrument cluster at the five-door is designed in a manner characteristic of SEATs with downward-oriented "sleeping" arrows, and a three-spoke "steering wheel" with a raised rim is installed directly in front of it. The decoration of the car from the point of view of ergonomics is thought out to the smallest detail, and tailored using high-quality materials.

The front seats of the "fifth" SEAT Ibiza are good in all respects - they have a comfortable profile with noticeably developed sidewalls and a cushion of optimal length, verified packing density and wide adjustment ranges. The rear sofa will accept two riders without any problems - the third will be uncomfortable with a high floor tunnel.

Trunk "Spaniard" in standard condition can hold up to 355 liters of luggage - a good figure in the B-class. The back of the rear row fits into a completely flat cargo area, which significantly increases the hatch's ability to transport bulky items.

Specifications. For SEAT Ibiza of the fifth incarnation, in fact, only three power units are declared (although two of them are available in several boost options) that meet the Euro-6 environmental standards:

  • The basic version is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI gasoline engine with turbocharging, 12-valve timing and direct injection, developing 95 or 115 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque in both cases. It is also available in a 90 hp version, which is adapted for compressed natural gas.
  • Its more powerful sibling is the inline-four 1.5 TSI of the EA 211 evo family, operating on Miller's economy cycle and equipped with direct injection, a variable geometry turbocharger, 16 valves and variable valve timing. It generates 150 "horses" at 5000-6000 rpm and 250 Nm at 1300-4000 rpm.
  • The diesel "combined" is represented by a four-cylinder 1.6-liter TDI engine with turbocharging and a Common Rail "power supply" system, provided in three variants of boost: 80, 95 and 115 "horses".

Versions with power less than 100 "horses" are equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics", while the rest relies on a 6-speed "manual" transmission and an optional 7-band "robot" DSG. How agile and economical the car is - the Spaniards have not yet reported.

The fifth "release" of the SEAT Ibiza is based on the front-wheel drive platform "MQB-A0" - a modernized version of the old "MQB" architecture. The front part of the hatchback's body is based on an independent McPherson-type structure, and the rear - on a semi-independent suspension with an elastic beam ("in a circle" - with transverse stabilizers). The braking system of the car is represented by disc devices on both axles (ventilated at the front), ABS, EBD and other modern technologies. As standard, the "Spaniard" is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex, supplemented by an electric amplifier with progressive characteristics.

Options and prices. The full-scale debut of "Ibiza" of the fifth generation will take place in March 2017 at the Geneva show, and its European sales are expected to start in June (configurations and prices have not yet been announced, but it will probably be more expensive than its predecessor, which in Europe "at the end of its career" is offered at price from ~ € 12,700). Most likely, the car will not reach Russia, since the brand left our country at the beginning of 2015.
In the "base" the hatch should receive front and side airbags, air conditioning, power windows, heated front seats, a multimedia system with a 5-inch screen, "music", ABS, EBD, ESP and other "gadgets". The list of optional equipment for the five-door is impressive - dual-zone "climate", adaptive cruise control, full LED optics, rear view camera, keyless entry system, automatic braking technology and a bunch of other "goodies".
