Reputable analytical agency J.D. The Power And Association, which has independently monitored the market for new and used cars for thirty-three years in a row, published in June 2019 the next (33rd in a row) rating of reliability of new cars (IQS - Initial Quality Study), officially presented in North America. ...

The study of the American company involved 76,256 respondents - owners or tenants of new "iron horses" after 90 days of operation, each of whom answered 233 questions about the number of calls to car services and overall satisfaction with the quality of workmanship in various areas.

Based on a survey, J.D. The Power and Association has assigned each car brand a Problems per 100 Vehicle (PP100) index - and the lower the better. And, already based on these results, the so-called "satisfaction rating" of buyers by this or that automaker was compiled.

It is noteworthy that, compared to the results of last year, 18 brands at once worsened their numbers, while they improved them - only 13. At the same time, the average quality indicator for the industry remained at the record level of 2018 - 93 problems per 100 cars (93PP100 ).

As before, most often, owners or lessees of new cars complained about problems with infotainment complexes, but there has been little progress in this section. But the complaints about the driver's assistants, on the contrary, have once again increased, and the electronics in the premium brands were freaky more often than in the mass ones (6.1 versus 3.5 complaints about a hundred “iron horses).

Interestingly, for the second year in a row, the entire podium was taken by South Korean companies, which are also part of the same Hyundai-Kia concern. The "Gold Medalist" was the premium brand Genesis with a score of 63PP100 (which, by the way, is five units better than last year's result), the "silver medal" went to Kia (70 complaints per 100 cars), and the "bronze" went to the Hyundai brand (71PP100) ...

In 2019, as in the previous year, the two lower places in the rating were “staked out” by British premium car manufacturers (albeit, having changed places with each other) - Jaguar (130 breakdowns per 100 cars) and Land Rover (123PP100). But it is noteworthy that these companies showed the best improvement over the year, reducing the number of problems by 18 and 37 points, respectively. In addition to them, the Mitsubishi brand showed itself not on the best side - it received 121 complaints about a hundred cars.

It is worth noting that Porsche, which occupied the fourth line in 2018, seriously deteriorated its positions by 17 units at once - to 96 complaints per 100 "iron horses". Even so, this particular 911 was voted the best of all categories for the second year in a row, with a total of 56 complaints per 100 vehicles.

As for other automakers, Ford and Lincoln were able to "climb" in the rankings slightly higher, even if their quality deteriorated by several units. At the same time, the Ram brand “collapsed” down, changing its indicators from 84 to 105 breakdowns per 100 cars, and its sister company Dodge, on the contrary, broke into the top ten, showing an improvement of 8 points (up to 90PP100). In addition, Toyota and Buick, which were below average in the rating last year, did well.

If we take into account the victories in individual categories, then here the best were two mass brands at once - Kia and Ford, which won four first places in different nominations.

As for individual models (that is, “the best in their segment”), the final “satisfaction rating” of the J.D. Power agency for 2019 looks like this:
