The first demonstration of the Opel Zafira concept took place in 1997 - at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and after two years the production version of the one-volume was presented. In 2002, the compact van underwent modernization, after which it remained unchanged on the conveyor until 2005 (in Brazil - until 2012) - it was then that the model of the next generation arrived in time to replace it.

The "first" Opel Zafira is a five-door compact MPV with 5 or 7 seats.

The dimensions of the body along the outer perimeter of the car are as follows: 4315 mm in length, 1630 mm in height and 1740 mm in width. The wheelbase of the "German" is allocated 2695 mm of the total length, and the ground clearance does not exceed 150 mm.

The curb weight of a single-volume vehicle ranges from 1320 to 1560 kg.

The Opel Zafira A has six powertrains to choose from:

  • The gasoline part consists of 1.6-2.2 liter engines, the potential of which has 97-147 horsepower and 140-203 Nm of maximum torque.
  • Turbo diesel engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.2 liters, respectively, produce 101 and 125 "horses" of power (230 and 280 Nm of thrust).

There are two gearboxes - 5-speed manual or 4-range automatic, front-wheel drive only.

The first generation Zafira is based on the GM T-body platform, which implies a fully independent chassis with traditional MacPherson struts at the front and a trailing arm, torsion bar and coil springs at the rear.
The rack and pinion steering gear "flaunts" an electrohydraulic booster, and all wheels - disc brakes with ABS technology.

In 2018, in the secondary market of the Russian Federation, you can purchase a first-generation Zafira at a price of 200 ~ 350 (depending on the condition and equipment of a particular instance).

The compact MPV Opel Zafira A has its positive and negative points:

  • The list of the first includes great opportunities for transforming a 7-seater cabin, a high level of reliability, inexpensive maintenance, accelerating engines, a spacious trunk and a low cost of the car itself.
  • The second includes not too high ground clearance, high fuel consumption, long warm-up of the cabin on frosty days and not the best visibility.
