Renowned analytical agency J.D. The Power and Association, which has been engaged in an independent study of the market for new and used cars for thirty-two years already, in June 2018 shared with the world community the next (32nd) rating of reliability of new cars (IQS - Initial Quality Study), which are officially sold in North America.

The study was conducted from February to May 2018, and during this period of time almost 76 thousand respondents - buyers and tenants of the "iron horses" of the 2018 model year, took part in it.

The survey was carried out after three months from the date of the start of operation of the car, which is why in this case most often it was not about serious breakdowns, but rather about dissatisfaction with certain qualities of the car (up to the unfortunate location of some button).

Based on the research, each brand was assigned an index of the number of defects per 100 vehicles (PP100 - Problems per 100 Vehicle), and the lower it is, the better. Based on the ratings, the Americans created the so-called "satisfaction rating", which this time did not go without interesting surprises.

As noted by American experts, compared to 2017, the quality of "iron horses" in the industry as a whole added 4%, reaching the highest value in the entire history of "IQS". At the same time, an improvement was observed in six categories out of eight at once, and 21 out of 31 brands (who took part in the survey) were able to increase the indicators of their products only in the last year.

It is worth noting that the block of ACEN questions (audio, communications, entertainment, navigation), as in 2017, is the most problematic (according to car owners). Well, most often drivers complain about the incorrect operation of the voice recognition system (not all commands are recognized correctly, or are generally ignored) and the connection via Bluetooth. In addition, people are increasingly complaining about a variety of assistants (tracking the lane, automatic braking, etc.).

The entire podium in 2018 was "occupied" by South Korean companies (part of one concern): the premium brand Genesis took the top line (having improved its results a year ago by nine points), Kia was content with "silver" (72 breakdowns per 100 cars), and third place went to Hyundai (74PP100).

At the rear of the rating are British car manufacturers: Land Rover (160 malfunctions per 100 cars) and Jaguar (148PP100) showed the worst performance. But if the results of the second mark did not change in comparison with 2017, then the results of the first one "collapsed" by 29 points at once. Besides them, Volvo showed itself unsatisfactorily - 134 defects for every "hundred" of these cars.

Among the first fifteen brands, Cadillac and Infiniti had the best dynamics of reducing the number of complaints over the year - they “threw off” 15 breakdowns per 100 “iron horses”.

If we take into account the lower part of the rating, then Mazda added in quality more noticeable than others (and indeed - in general among all brands that took part in the piglet): the number of complaints about these cars dropped by 25 points at once (from 125 to 100).

It is also worth noting that the most problem-free car on the market, regardless of classes, turned out to be the Porsche 911, with only 48 stings for every "hundred" units.

If we take victories in certain categories, then the “palm” here was taken by the concern Ford Motor (five first places), and Hyundai Motor “performed” a little worse - four “gold” in various nominations.

As for specific models (ie “best in their segment”), the final “satisfaction rating” by J.D. Power for 2018 looks like this:
